Amphora panatenaica (of Achilles)
Also called Achilles amphora, due to the mythological theme that is part of its iconographic decoration. The figurative themes are distributed in two scenes delimited at the height of the handles. In one, the abduction of Briseis: Achilles seated and wrapped in a cloak presncia the march of Briseis carried by Ulysses and Diomedes, with warrior attire (photo). In the other, another scene from the Iliad (?): a warrior is about to get into his chariot, on which the charioteer is already holding the reins. Other warriors accompany him, and a young woman with a Doric peplum sends them off. / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Instituto Gómez-Moreno (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 195.
