Immaculate Conception
In this oil on canvas is a representation of the Immaculate Conception within the canons established by Francisco Pacheco and which are especially contemplated among the painters of the Andalusian school of the seventeenth century. The Virgin Mary, with red tunic and blue mantle, appears standing on the moon, under which three little angels are sheltered. In the upper part she is flanked by four others and has a limbo of stars. Above it appears the dove of the Holy Spirit from which rays of light come out and envelop her. The background of the composition is a landscape on which the symbols of the Litany Lauretana are arranged. /Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Gómez-Moreno Institute (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 131.
