Alejo de Vahía
Madera talada y policromada

This sculpture represents Saint John the Baptist standing in a tunic, bearded and with long hair, holding in his left hand an open book on which the Lamb appears. The attribution of this work to Alejo de Vahía was made by Joaquín Yarza in the 80’s of the last century (Yarza Luaces, J.: “Alejo de Vahía y su escuela. Nuevas obras”, in Miscelánea de Arte, 1982), and although he does not specifically study the sculpture, he does say that it is a work of good technique and possibly his own. It could be considered from ca. 1505 / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Instituto Gómez-Moreno (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 171.

Chronology: Alejo de Vahía, active in Castile between 1480-1510S. XV-XVI
