St. Nicholas of Bari
On this occasion the saint (from the 4th century) is represented with the characteristic mitre and pluvial cape, as a bishop. With his right hand he blesses, while with the other he holds the crosier, now lost. At his feet appear the three naked children in a tub, alluding to the miracle in which he cured the wounds of some children attacked by a criminal. His rich clothes have meticulous decoration (borders and prints) with golden backgrounds. It is to be supposed that this image was the titular of the Hospital of the University of Salamanca and could be attributed to the same author (not known) of the western cover of the University of Salamanca / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Gómez-Moreno Institute (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 174.
