Virgin and Child #9
Painting on panel depicting the Virgin, enthroned, holding the Child on her legs. The displacement of the group to the left and the size of the throne reveal the painter’s interest in enhancing the meaning of this symbolic element. The throne is flanked by four musical angels, two on each side. The gilded background has an engraved decoration in the form of a tapestry with a vegetal theme. The frame is carved on the same panel. You can see the hooks on the side that denote that it belonged to a triptych.
