Virgin and Child (Bigarny)
Philip Bigarny was a Flemish artist who worked in Spain until his death (Toledo 1542) and is considered one of the masters of the Spanish Renaissance. His works in Spain are associated with the Castilian crown. This sculpture, whose provenance is unknown, is linked by specialists to other sculptural ensembles in the city of Salamanca. It is of the Virgin, standing, with the child in her left arm in an attitude of blessing. The hair and clothes are gilded, with stewed work on the dresses / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Gómez-Moreno Institute (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 175.
