Virgin and Child with St. John #5

José Risueño (1665-1732)
Terracota policromada

The Virgin, seated, protects the two children who are cuddled on her lap. Both the model and the polychromy are characteristic of Risueño, who personally polychromed his works. Doubts have been raised about the subject represented. Among the technical aspects it is worth mentioning the use of glued fabrics on the sleeves. / Extracted from: A.A.V.V.: Instituto Gómez-Moreno (catalog). Granada, 1992, p. 184.
