CIVILIAN CHARACTERS
Set of seven figures made of polychrome wood. They are part of a set, now lost, which would represent the different dignities or ranks within the court. Two of them (cat. 34 and 37), show two seated personages, with the attire of court scholars, holding in their hands (cat. 37) a scepter or ruyi, a characteristic attribute of the scholars, while the second shows his rank by means of the iconographic motif embroidered on his breastplate. The male figures (cat. 33, 35 and 36) carry between their hands what could be the handle of a parasol with which they covered each of the scholars as servants. The female figure, on the other hand, shows a relaxed attitude and could be one of the ladies at the service of the scholars. Because it is incomplete it is difficult to interpret, but it could have been part of a larger funerary ensemble. I.C.F. / Extracted from: Isabel CERVERA FERNÁNDEZ: Fundación Rodríguez-Acosta.
