HAT BUTTON

Coral, turquesa, metal.

In the male clothing of the Chinese court, the hat was an indispensable part of it. Its ornaments at the top were associated with the symbolism of the different civilian and military ranks of the court. In this case, coral brings in itself several meanings. Like all stones, it is associated with longevity, and in the court dress code of the Qing dynasty it was the insignia or emblem of civil and military officers of the highest rank.
