Legacies

Gómez Moreno Legacy

Thanks to the generosity of the Gómez-Moreno family, in 1973 the legacy of Manuel Gómez-Moreno Martínez (Granada, 1870-Madrid, 1970) was formally donated to the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation. This legacy consists of a rich collection of historical works of art and archaeological objects, as well as a specialized library and archive that preserves the materials and fruits of his extraordinary intellectual labor.

José Manuel and Miguel Rodriguez-Acosta Carlström

José Manuel Rodríguez-Acosta Carlström (Granada, 1935-2009) and Miguel Rodríguez-Acosta Carlström (Granada, 1927), the nephews of José María Rodríguez-Acosta, have made several donations to the Foundation throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Among them are the archives of the Rodriguez-Acosta Bank, Ramon Perez Ayala’s correspondence with Miguel Rodriguez-Acosta, numerous documents about the founder and important paintings by him, among them Angosturas del Darro (1903), Pastoral de Longo, En el santuario (1906), La tentación de la montaña (1910) or the Portrait of Maria Berriz (1912), as well as the Portrait of Miguel Rodriguez-Acosta (circa 1920) by Jose Maria Lopez Mezquita.

Manuel Maldonado Rodríguez

The painter Manuel Maldonado Rodríguez (Granada, 1915-1984), considered a fundamental pillar of 20th century Granada painting, was closely linked to the Rodríguez-Acosta Foundation, especially to its engraving workshop that operated in the 1970s. After the painter’s death in the early 1990s, his widow, Carmen Ruiz Jiménez, donated to the Foundation an important batch of works by the artist: sketches for mural paintings, canvases from his trips to Italy, engravings, drawings, portraits, as well as a set of various objects from his workshop that constitute a valuable legacy.

José Martínez Rioboo

José Martínez Rioboo (1888-1947), an engineer by profession, fond of painting and much more of photography, participated actively in the cultural resurgence of Granada in the first decades of the 20th century. His association with the Centro Artístico, the Escuela de Artes y Oficios, and some of the most important periodicals of the time, put him in contact with many of the cultural initiatives that took place in this city between approximately 1905 and 1940. His interesting work as a photographer, halfway between artistic creation and graphic documentary, also includes aspects of other parts of the country, obtained during trips to Seville, Madrid, Barcelona, etc. The donation consists of more than 3,000 pieces, of which more than 2,500 are photographs on glass and more than 400 on paper. A proportionally smaller number of drawings and documents complete the legacy, including letters and autograph manuscripts by Salvador Rueda and Constantino Ruiz Carnero.
